Providing suitable conditions for purchasing indoor flowers and plants

Before buying a houseplant , knowing where you want to place it in your home will help you choose the right plant for those growing conditions, including temperature and light. Growing conditions indoors can be just as different as outdoors in the garden. Three key aspects to consider are light, humidity, and temperature:

Amount of light

Light will be the most important factor when deciding what to buy. Knowing whether you have direct, indirect or low light in each room is the best information you can give a gardener to help you choose the right houseplants for your situation.

 Humidity

Different plants need different levels of humidity. Houseplants that require high humidity will grow best in high humidity. The humidity in different rooms varies. A bathroom or kitchen often has high humidity, while a living room, especially with central heating on, tends to have low humidity.

 The right temperature

Room temperature can vary from season to season and between day and night. Places that get too hot due to direct summer sun or nearby radiators can lead to leaf damage. Plants left in sunrooms or gardens over winter will suffer if night temperatures are too cold.

So it's a good idea to check the temperature in different rooms over a 24-hour period to see how much it fluctuates. And consider moving your plants around throughout the year to make the most of the light and heat available.
